Styles and references
Style reference Show do not tell: upload 1 to 2 audio references as the target sound instead of describing a genre.

Style Strength 80% The default sweet spot. Lower it for more prompt freedom, raise it toward 100 only when the reference is perfect.

Sessions editing (paid)
Sessions Extend Add an intro, section, or outro directly on the waveform.

Tips
Show, do not tell, with Styles
When you have a reference track, add it as a Style instead of describing the genre in words. Drag the roughly 32 second window to the strongest section of the track so Udio copies the part you actually want.
Start Style Strength at 80
Eighty percent is the default sweet spot. Lower it when you want the text prompt to have more say, and only push toward 100 when the reference is exactly the sound you are after.
Kill vocal bleed with an instrumental break
If your style reference has singing but you want an instrumental, put [INSTRUMENTAL BREAK] in the lyrics box and keep vocal words out of the style prompt. This is the "Udiolish" fix.
Edit in Sessions, do not reroll
On a paid plan, open a near-miss in Sessions and Replace only the weak 10 to 30 second slice, with undo. That fixes a song without spending credits on a whole new generation.
Save a Voice for consistency
Use a voice in a native Udio song first, then save it, so later sections and songs share the same singer. Voices cannot be pulled from upload-derived tracks.
Nudge the blend before going extreme
On Style Blend or Voices Blend, move the influence slider only about 15 either side of 50/50 first. Extreme settings tend to sound like a muddy mashup.
Operator recipe
You will make: A shareable 30-second hook with a consistent vocal, clean enough to post over a short video.
- Open Create in manual mode and write a tight style prompt: genre, mood, vocal character, a few named instruments, then a BPM.
- If you have a reference track, add it as a Style at about 80 percent strength and drag the 32 second window to its best section.
- Put your structure tags in the lyrics box, and add [INSTRUMENTAL BREAK] if the reference sings but you want the intro clean.
- Generate two or three takes, since output is probabilistic, and pick the strongest roughly 30 second hook.
- Open the winner in Sessions and use Replace on any weak 10 to 30 second slice instead of rerolling the whole song.
- Save the vocal as a Voice so later sections and follow-up songs keep the same singer.
- Compress the cover art before upload with Compress Image at /compress-image.
Pass check: You have a roughly 30 second clip whose vocal, mood, and tempo all match and that sounds ready to post.
