Essay workflow prompts

These prompts help you build an essay the honest way: the AI sharpens your thinking and flags weak spots, and you write every sentence yourself. Paste your own topic, thesis, or draft into the brackets and keep the words yours.

Every prompt here asks the AI for structure and feedback only. None of them will write your essay, and you should not ask them to - the sentences in your paper need to be yours.

Find your argument

Turn a topic into a thesis

I want to write an argumentative essay about [topic]. Give me 3 possible thesis statements I could defend, each taking a clear and debatable position. For each one, tell me in a sentence what side I would be arguing against. I will pick one and write the essay myself.

Why it works: A thesis someone could argue against is the start of a real essay, not a summary.

Pressure-test your thesis

Here is my working thesis: [paste thesis]. Tell me honestly whether it is too broad, too obvious, or not actually arguable. If it has any of those problems, ask me the questions I need to answer to make it sharper. Do not rewrite it for me.

Why it works: Catching a weak thesis now saves you from an essay that goes nowhere.

List the counterarguments

My thesis is [paste thesis]. List the 3 strongest objections a reader could raise against it, and for each one note what I would need to address to answer it. I will decide how to respond in my own words.

Why it works: Naming the objections you will face makes your argument stronger and more honest.

Structure and evidence

One-line-per-section outline

Help me outline an essay with this thesis: [paste thesis]. Suggest a logical order of sections and write one line describing the job each section does. Do not write the actual paragraphs - I will write every sentence myself.

Why it works: A skeleton keeps you organized while leaving all the real writing to you.

What evidence each point needs

Here are my main points: [paste your points]. For each point, tell me what kind of evidence or example would support it (a statistic, a type of source, a specific case) so I know what to go find. I will do the research and write it up myself.

Why it works: Knowing what proof each point needs turns vague claims into a research to-do list.

Topic-sentence plan

Based on my thesis [paste thesis] and points [paste points], give me a blank plan: one prompt per body paragraph telling me what that paragraph should accomplish, with the topic sentence left for me to write. I will fill in every sentence.

Why it works: A plan that leaves the sentences blank guides your structure without writing for you.

Feedback on your own draft

Critique structure and logic

Here is a draft I wrote: [paste draft]. Give me feedback only on the structure and logic - where the argument jumps, where a paragraph is out of order, or where a claim lacks support. Point to the problems but do not rewrite any sentences for me.

Why it works: Feedback on the reasoning helps you fix the draft while keeping it entirely your own writing.

Does every paragraph earn its place

Here is my draft and my thesis: [paste thesis, then draft]. For each paragraph, tell me in one line whether it clearly supports the thesis or drifts off topic. Flag any that wander, but let me decide how to fix them.

Why it works: Checking each paragraph against the thesis catches the ones quietly padding your word count.

Pre-submit revision checklist

I am about to revise the essay I wrote about [topic]. Give me a checklist of things to look for on my own re-read: thesis clarity, paragraph focus, transitions, evidence, and anything else worth checking. I will do the revising myself.

Why it works: A checklist turns a nervous final read into a calm, thorough pass you control.
