A logo is an idea, not a picture

The best marks are almost embarrassingly plain. Nike is a swoosh. Apple is a fruit with a bite. You are not painting a scene - you are boiling a whole idea down to one shape a stranger can remember with their eyes closed.

  2. 02

    Simple beats clever every time

Detailed and clever dies at small sizes. Simple and memorable survives on a phone icon, a coffee cup, a favicon. If your mark needs a paragraph to explain it, you made an illustration, not a logo.

  3. 03

Describe the feeling, not 'a cool logo'

The AI cannot read your mind. 'A cool logo for my coffee brand' gives you mush every time. Tell it the concept AND the mood - what it is, who it is for, and how it should hit someone in one glance.

A minimal mark for a slow-morning coffee brand: calm, warm, unhurried. One simple symbol, lots of empty space.

    Name the shapes out loud

Vague prompts make busy messes. Hand the machine geometry instead. Say circle. Say monoline. Say one continuous stroke. When you name the shapes, the AI stops improvising and starts building.

A single monoline symbol - one unbroken line forming a [thing]. Geometric, minimal, thick even strokes.

    Text is where AI breaks

Most image tools spell like a toddler - gibberish letters, melted words, fake alphabets. If your logo needs real words, use the tool actually built to render readable text. On glunty that is the Ideogram deck. Everywhere else, leave the words out and add them yourself.

Need the name IN the mark? Generate the symbol clean, then set the type yourself in any free editor.

    'Professional' means nothing

Professional is not a style - it is a shrug. Pick a real vibe with real words: modern, retro, playful, luxury, brutalist, hand-drawn. Stack two or three reference styles you love. Adjectives steer the machine. 'Professional' just gives it permission to guess.

Try: modern, geometric, luxury. Or: retro, chunky, playful. Pick a lane and commit.
  7. 07

Judge it in black and white

Color hides a weak idea. Strip the mark to one flat color and shrink it to thumbnail size. If it still reads in pure black at the size of an app icon, you have a logo. If it turns to mud, you have a mess.

Squint at it the size of a favicon. Still instantly obvious? Keep it.

It has to work in one color

A real mark survives as a rubber stamp, an embossed edge, a single-color print, a white knockout on a dark shirt. If it only looks good in the exact gradient the AI handed you, it is a picture pretending to be a brand.

  9. 09

A logo lives in a system

One-off pretty pictures are not brands. A mark needs room to breathe, one font feel standing beside it, and a color it owns. Design the small world around the symbol - the spacing, the type, the restraint - not just the shape in the middle.

Generate a pile, kill your darlings

Never marry take one. Make a hundred. The first batch is a warm-up that flushes out the obvious ideas everyone else lands on too. Your real winner is usually buried in the ugly middle of the pile.

Run the same prompt 20 times. Screenshot the 5 that stop you cold. Delete the rest without mercy.
  11. 11

    Redrawable beats gorgeous

A stunning raster you can never scale is a trap. It blurs on a billboard and clogs on a business card. Choose the mark simple enough to redraw as clean vector - flat shapes, no fussy texture. Scalable quietly beats pretty.

  12. 12

Your taste is the whole product

The AI spits out a hundred options and has zero opinion about which one is right. That opinion is you. The tool is the axe - you are the art director. The one you pick, refine, and stand behind is the only part that was ever actually yours.

Could a stranger redraw this from memory? If no, it is too complex. Send it back.
  13. 13

Ship the simple one, iterate later

Stop waiting for the perfect mark. It does not exist. Pick the cleanest one that fits, put it on your thing, and live with it in public. A boring logo that ships beats a genius one rotting in your drafts forever.

Choose today. Refine only after you have seen it out in the wild for a week.
