Have the Conversation You Keep Dodging
Walk out having finally said it - clear, kind, and done - instead of carrying it one more silent day.
- 01
You already know the conversation
The breakup. The firing. The one sentence that changes everything if you say it out loud. You have rehearsed dodging it a hundred times. This level is you rehearsing saying it instead.
In your notes app, finish this line right now: 'The conversation I keep dodging is ______.' Write the real name, not the polite one. - 02
Dodging costs more than the talk
The conversation is one bad hour. The dodge is one silent day, billed to you again tomorrow, and the day after. You are not avoiding the pain. You are paying it in installments so small you barely notice the account draining.
Ask AI: 'Here is what I keep avoiding. Tally what the silence has already cost me - time, energy, the relationship.' Log the number it hands back. - 03
Resentment is interest on silence
The resentment you carry is the price of the conversation you have not had, and it compounds. That cold feeling when they walk in the room? Interest, charged daily. The talk does not create it. The talk closes the account.
Write one line: 'This resentment is really the bill for a talk I keep skipping.' Sit with whether it is true. - 04
AI is your axe, not your friend
You do not need comfort. You need to fell something heavy. AI is a wood-felling axe: it hands you the play, swings back when you swing, and never once flinches. You are the operator. It does not have the conversation for you.
Open a fresh chat and set the terms: 'You are my sparring partner for a hard conversation, not my therapist. Push back hard, do not soothe me.' - 05
Name the one real thing
Not the seven grievances. The one. Under the messy story sits a single sentence about what this is actually about. If you cannot say it in one line, you are not ready - you are still hiding inside the story.
Paste everything you feel to AI: 'Compress this to ONE sentence - what is this really about?' Save the sentence it forces out of you. - 06
Know the one outcome you want
Walk in without a goal and you will wander into a fight, scoring points you never meant to score. Decide the outcome first. Do you want them gone, changed, informed, or free of you? Every word serves that or gets cut.
Before you say anything, write: 'By the end, I want ______.' Prove it - paste it where you will see it mid-conversation. - 07
Lead with the hard sentence
Five minutes of throat-clearing is a mercy for you, not for them. It only makes them brace longer. Say the real thing in the first thirty seconds, then explain. The kindest move is to not make them wait for the blade.
Draft your opener with AI under one rule: the hard part lands in sentence one, no warm-up. Read it out loud before you keep it. - 08
'I feel' gets past the guard
'You always' turns them into a defendant, and defendants defend. 'I feel. I need. I have decided.' cannot be argued with - it is yours to declare. Same truth, but one starts a war and the other actually gets heard.
Hand AI your opener: 'Rewrite every You-statement as I-feel, I-need, or I-have-decided.' Keep the version that owns it. - 09
Rehearse against their worst version
You are not scared of the conversation. You are scared of their reaction. So practice the reaction. Have AI play them at their most defensive, coldest, most in tears - and run it until none of it knocks you off your one line.
Tell AI: 'Play [them] at their most defensive. I open, you push back, do not go easy.' Run it three times. Log which reply rattled you. - 10
Their reaction is not your job
You control your clarity. You do not control whether they cry, rage, or go silent. Drop the goal of them not being upset - that hope is the leash that has kept you quiet for months. Aim to be clear and kind, then let them feel what they feel.
Write the outcome you keep secretly hoping for - 'they will understand and not be hurt' - then cross it out. That is the wish keeping you stuck. - 11
The silence after is theirs
You will say the hard thing and the room will go quiet. That silence is them processing, not a hole for you to fill by walking it all back. Say your sentence. Then stop talking. Let it land on them, not dissolve in your backpedaling.
Rehearse the pause: say your opener to AI, then count five full seconds of silence before anything else. Practice not rescuing them from it. - 12
Honest and kind beats nice and fake
You have been 'nice' for months, and nice was a quiet lie that cost them the truth. Nice protects your comfort. Kind tells them what is real so they can actually do something with it. The hard sentence, said with care, is the most respectful thing you have got.
Write it plainly: 'Staying quiet was not kind. It was easier for me.' If that one stings, that is how you know it is true. - 13
Prep for clarity, not a trap
You are not building a case to win. If you rehearse to corner them, you have turned a conversation into an ambush and they will feel the walls close. Prepare so you can stay clear under pressure - not so you can never be wrong. They can smell the difference.
Ask AI: 'Is my prep making me clearer, or arming me to win?' Cut every line that exists only to score a point. - 14
Clear it: send the time
Prep has an expiry date. A rehearsed conversation you never book is just a more detailed dodge. Pick the hour. Message them now. Open with the real sentence you have spent this whole level sharpening.
Do it now: send 'Can we talk [day/time]? There is something real I need to say.' Then log the date. Level cleared the moment the message is sent - not when it is perfect.
Reading is not doing. Wire every node - do it with the tool, log the proof, mark it done. Finish them all to seal LEVEL CLEARED (+40).
LEVEL CLEARED - +40 banked, and a notebook to show for it. Go clear another.
