Learn a hard thing for real

Explain your hardest topic like you are teaching a little kid, let Claude catch your fuzzy spots, and turn confusion into something you truly get.

    Pick your hard thing

    Think of one thing that makes your brain hurt. A school topic. A game rule. How something in the world works.

    Pick something you WANT to get, not something easy. This trick works best on the tricky stuff.

    Feynman was a famous scientist who learned hard things by explaining them like he was talking to a little kid. That is exactly what you are about to do.

    Find the fuzzy part

    Now be honest. What part of it makes you go 'uhh, I'm not sure'?

    Maybe the whole thing is fuzzy. Maybe just one piece. Naming the fuzzy part is step one of getting un-stuck.

    Explain it like I'm 6

    Do not look anything up. Do not open Claude yet. Just YOU.

    Explain your hard thing in simple words, like you are teaching a little kid who knows nothing. No big words allowed - if you use one, you have to explain it too.

    It is totally fine if this comes out messy. Messy is the point - it shows you exactly where your gaps are.

    Let Claude find your gaps

    Time to bring in a patient teacher. Open Claude, paste the prompt, and drop in your answers where it asks.

    Claude will tell you what you got right, then gently point at the fuzzy spots you skipped without noticing.

    Read what it says. Then type the number-one fuzzy spot it found.

    Claude stays kind and encouraging even about weak spots - do not let 'good job' fool you.

    It may miss a gap or invent one; you are the judge of what actually confused you.

    Its job here is to point at gaps, not hand you the answer yet.

    You are a warm, patient teacher who loves the Feynman technique - the trick where you learn something by explaining it super simply. You never just hand over the answer; you help me find my own gaps. Here is a hard thing I am trying to learn: [hardThing]. The part that makes my brain fuzzy is [fuzzyPart]. Here is my try at explaining it like I am teaching a 6-year-old: [firstTry]. Do three things: 1) Tell me what I got RIGHT so I feel good. 2) Point at the 1 to 3 spots where my explanation is fuzzy, hand-wavy, or secretly skips something - the places I clearly do not fully get yet. 3) For each fuzzy spot, ask me ONE simple question that would help me figure it out myself. Do not give me the answers yet. Keep every word simple enough for a kid.

    Fill the gap

    Now go back to Claude and ask it to explain JUST that one fuzzy spot, kid-simple.

    Read it slowly. Wait for the moment it clicks - that little 'ohhh' feeling.

    Type the one sentence that finally made it make sense.

Use tiny words and one everyday example a kid would actually know. No jargon. If you must use a big word, explain it right away in plain language. End with a one-sentence version so simple a little kid could repeat it back.

    Close Claude for a second. This part is YOU again.

    Explain your hard thing one more time, still like you are teaching a 6-year-old - but now with the gap filled in.

    Do not copy Claude word for word. Say it YOUR way. That is how you know it is really in your head.

    Make it stick with a picture

    The best explanations give your brain a picture to hold onto.

    Finish this: 'My hard thing is like...' Compare it to something everyday - a sandwich, a traffic jam, a video game, a pet.

    A good picture makes a hard thing easy to remember forever.

    Kid-test it with Claude

    One last check. Open Claude and paste the prompt with your new explanation and your picture.

    Claude will pretend to be a curious kid and tell you if it actually lands - plus one tiny fix.
