Defend a Real Opinion

Bring an opinion you truly hold, let a friendly AI opponent attack it, and walk away with reasons that actually hold up.

    01

Pick a hill worth standing on

A claim is just an opinion you can argue for. Like "video games can teach real skills" or "the school day should start later."

Pick one you actually believe. Not a hot take to sound cool - a real one.

Write it as ONE clear sentence. If it uses the word "and" twice, it is really two claims. Trim it.

  2. Finish the step above first
    02

    Give your first real reason

Why do you believe your claim? Lead with your strongest reason.

A reason answers "because...". Make it a fact or a cause, not just "because I like it."

    One sentence. Real, not fluffy.

    03

    Stack a second reason

Make it different from the first. If reason 2 is just reason 1 in new clothes, it does not count.

Try a fresh angle: money, health, fairness, time, safety, or fun.

    04

    Land a third reason

Three legs make a stool stand. Give your claim its third leg.

This one can be the reason most people forget - the surprising one.

  5. Finish the step above first
    05

    Be your own toughest critic

Read your three reasons out loud. One of them is the wobbliest. Every argument has one.

Spotting your own weak spot BEFORE anyone else is a superpower. Nobody can surprise you with it.

Name which reason is weakest and say why in a few words.

Guess the punch coming at you

A counter-argument is the best point someone on the OTHER side would make.

Before you ask any robot, use your own head. If a smart friend disagreed with you, what would they say?

Write their single strongest point - the one that would be hardest for you to answer.

Let your friendly opponent poke holes

Open ChatGPT. Copy the coach prompt below and paste it in. It fills in your claim, your reasons, and your guess.

It will kindly attack each reason and name the single strongest counter-argument - maybe one you missed.

Read it slowly. It is on your team. It wants your thinking to get stronger, not to win.

Then write that toughest counter-argument in your OWN words. Do not just copy its wording.

    what will really happen

ChatGPT sounds smart and sure, but it can be confidently wrong - check its points, do not just trust them.

It may go easy on you or agree too fast, even after you told it not to.

The strongest counter-argument might be one it names, or one you already guessed yourself.

You are my friendly debate coach, not a yes-man. I want to think clearly and defend my own idea honestly - I am not trying to trick anyone. My claim: [claim]. My three reasons are: 1) [reason1] 2) [reason2] 3) [reason3]. I think the strongest argument against me is: [guess]. Do this for me: point out the weakest spot in each reason, kindly but honestly. Then name the single strongest counter-argument a fair, smart person would make, even if it is different from my guess. Ask me one question at a time and wait for my reply. Be warm, but do not go easy on me.

    Answer the hardest punch

Now defend your ground. How do you answer that counter-argument honestly?

Strong answers do not dodge. They face the point and show why your claim still stands - or they admit the small part that is true and hold the rest.

Write your answer in a sentence or two.

hold on - judge it, do not celebrate
    • Did that counter-argument actually dent your claim, or did you just brush it off?
    • What is the ONE reason of yours that still feels weakest?
    • What would you change to answer it more honestly?

    Stress-test your answer

Back to ChatGPT. Paste the prompt below to pressure-test the answer you just wrote.

It will tell you if your answer really deals with the punch or quietly dodges it.

It will NOT write a new answer for you. You keep the pen. You do the fixing.

Rewrite your answer tighter and more honest. That final version is the keeper.

You are still my friendly debate coach. My claim is: [claim]. The strongest counter-argument against me is: [counter]. Here is my answer to it: [answer]. Be honest: does my answer really deal with that counter-argument, or does it quietly dodge it? Point out any weak or hand-wavy part in plain words. Then show me one way to make my answer tighter and more honest. Do not rewrite it for me - just show me what to fix, because the thinking has to stay mine.

Did you rewrite your answer, or keep your first draft?

This is the thing you could pull up before a class debate or a dinner-table argument.

Hit build and read it top to bottom. Does it hold together? That is YOUR thinking, sharpened.

You Argue Like You Mean It

You took a real opinion and made it tougher by inviting the attacks instead of hiding from them. That is not winning by tricks, that is thinking clearly - and now it is yours to keep.
